Strawberries.
« on: June 27, 2014, 18:30 »
Hi guys & gals,

At the end of this year one of my strawberry beds will have finished it's third year so time to be composted and start over with new runners.   :D

I've been thinking about use old car tire's which the OH kindly nominated herself for painting.  If anyone has ever tied this, if so a little info would be great like :-  How many to stack up, How many too plant in each tyre etc etc.

Thanks in advance.

Dan
Dear God, Please can you stop the wind and rain and bring on the nice weather. Amen

Hi Dan,

I have not used car tyres, but strawbs don't need nuch depth of soil, so I would have thought one tyre could be enough depending on size, certainly two would be enough. As for how many, I would space them as normal, about a foot apart min, so maybe three or four plants. I assume you are talking car tyres and not bicycle tyres?  :nowink:

I think some have mentioned on here about possible toxic leak from tyres. Not sure if there is an issue, but might be worth looking into.
