Mixed Up Seedlings :(
« on: April 19, 2014, 19:24 »
Hi ,
I'm just starting my first season of planting on my new allotment and thought everything was going great until I realised I've got all my cabbage, brussel sprout and broccoli  seedlings mixed up  !
I've taken a picture of some and wondered if anyone is able to identify these seedlings for me ?

I know I could just put them all in the same place anyway, but the problem is that one tray is very weedy and I need to start off some new ones of which ever they are .

Thanks for any help.

It certainly does look like brassica of sorts. :D

Maybe cauliflower.

Or cabbage if you are lucky but could be brussels.

Brussel leaves tend to be rounder.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Oh, good.

Is cabbage a kind of lottery consensus then?

Brussel leaves tend to be rounder.

Thanks for that  :)
I really want to make sure I have some sprouts, so I think I'll be better off buying some plants this year and make sure I have water proof labels for next time.

Hi, what you could try is waiting until your plants are a bit more mature, and then try to identify them either by leaf size, colour or shape , this should put them all into their relative category  of brassicas. What it will not tell you is what group each of your plants belong to, just keep them separate when planting out.  :)

Yes I'll do that thanks.
I didn't realise that they would all look so much a like .  I'm trying to google how long it is before they start turning into cabbages or sprouts  :D If I didn't have one tray that was so weedy looking I wouldn't care, because whatever the weedy ones are I don't think they will survive.
Next year I'm only growing red cabbages and then they should be easy to spot
