Noticed that splodger listed her gardening book library elsewhere, thought I'd have a rummage.

Found a 1915 Penlee Recipe Book, with some quite "trendy" recipes:-

Indian Dahl, Spaghetti au Gratin (pasta was new fangled in my home in the 70's!), German Lentil Stew...and so it goes on, quite an eye opener as to what was available back then, even curry powder.

New Century Cutlets (a rice, lentil, herb combo to welcome in the 1900's).

It seems to be a cross between meat shortages of WW1, and the up and coming band of vegetarians.  It's referred to as The Food Reform.

half pint red lentils; 2 ounces butter; 3/4 pint water, 3 onions, 1 tablespoon curry powder; 3oz Hot boiled rice. Salt.

It seems the rice is put around as a border to serve.

Yum :?:

I use red lentils, popped mustard seeds, onion, tinned tomatoes, chilli (fresh or powder) and I normally have it with rice or naan bread.

We were given some Jerusalem artichokes last year, I'd never had them before, the guy on the next plot gave them to me as he said he couldn't handle the, um, effect.  I made them into soup and fed 1/2 to OH (so he wouldn't complain!) - funnily enough it didn't affect us!  I think it's beause we already eat so much wind-inducing food we were immune.

Mind you, Miso soup is a killer.  There used to be this great Japanese place near work that made Miso meal in a bowl soup, with noodles, veg, meat or fish if wanted, and some strange things that I've never seen before (like twigs!) - it was gorgeous but lethal, I used to open the window behind me at work, and every one I took there had the same problem, and they say Sumo wrestlers eat tons of miso, uuurgh.
