I'll be planting a few carrots in our modest garden this year, but I have a fair bit of patio that is suitable for container planting. I've bought a few varieties of carrot that will be more suited to containers but I'm not sure about compost. I know normally carrots love sandy soil, but obviously this isn't easy.

I've planted up a couple of beetroot tubs with Gro-Sure vegetable compost, but I fear this isn't ideal for carrots (despite the packaging having a huge carrot on it!). I heard somewhere that using compost from a tomato grow bag might be more ideal?

Tips welcome! Thanks

I'm not familiar with the gro-sure veg compost; is it just multi-purpose with a few added nutrients?

If so, should be OK but is probably pricier than standard grow bag compost.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

i grew carrots in an old bath last year and filled it using the cheapest grow-bags I could buy (i think they were homebase own brand), some soil from the plot and added some sand to the mix - seems to have worked well.. only pulled the last of the carrots last weekend  :)

will be doing the same again this year (I've scavenged a 2nd bath  :D )

Yeah looks like multi-purpose. I'm just a bit concerned that it isn't sandy enough? I'm not fussed if my carrots grow a little funny, as long as the taste good!

The most suitable compost straight out of the bag is Levingtons F2s. It has added silver sand and has a lovely texture.
If I were you, I'd use the compost I've got, riddle it to remove lumps and add some silver or horticultural sand.
