Broody Chicken
« on: August 24, 2013, 19:39 »
Hi,

Whilst I was on holiday one of my chickens went broody. Since coming back I have chucked her out of the hen house 3 times a day and tried to collect the eggs asap each day. However she does not seem to be improving and tonight I noticed that there is a patch on her back where one of the other chickens has been pecking her.

I have a small pen that I have used to raise chicks before. Should I put her in it during the day and back with the others at night? Or just in all the time until she is not broody any more?

Or shall I let her just get on with it and let her sort herself out?

She is not laying but it is not a problem, we have plenty of eggs from the others.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Bev

To make sure she is not pecked any more you can use purple spray to disguise the redness.  If you put her in the other pen during the day it might help her snap out of being broody.

Hi, I chucked her out this morning and got the pen ready. Then I couldn't catch her! I am keeping an eye on her to see if she goes back in and then I will pounce! :D  Bev
