Well I had a look in the seed store to see what was left, what was in date and then asked the grown up family what they fancied for next year. Then  I nipped along to the seed sales locally and only bought items with a long lead date (those that said 2015) that I hadn't in stock. Now I need nowt except parsnips which I do buy new season's stock.

If stored properly at home, so long as the dates are good I'm happy to buy the more expensive stuff at sales rates. This year I am getting a good crop of yin yang beans out of two year old stock so think that there is something to be said for learning which seeds need to be new and which not. Oh and which suppliers have seeds that keep.

After the sales? - that's when the new packets are out in stores.
but as most packets say packed in year....... doesn't mean the seed they've put in there is fresh, does it  :dry:
Cynical moi?  ::)

Had a bad year with Unwins a couple of years ago
I can report things have improved! Just had a year of rubbish germination with a lot of their seeds.
Bought some this year - fine.
