Hi

I wondered if anyone can advise. Just got in and put the girls to bed one has laid this egg (see picture). It's solid as a rock with a little hole in. It's rough to touch and almost looks as though its got a seam. I tried to break it in the sink and nearly took a chip out of the sink because it was so hard!

Really worried as I am new to hens and don't know whether to call the vet out or wait till the morning. (Or I could be going over the top and this is something that happens occasionally?!)

any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks x

This is exactly what I thought! I thought someone had been playing silly beggers but not possible. I'm just waiting for a call back from the vet.

once my chicken sitter (who could take all the eggs they laid as a thank you) tried to hard boil a rubber egg that I had put in my coop to encourage laying in the correct place. It took her several months to own up to what she had done as she felt a bit silly  ::)
Staffies are softer than you think.
