Glad to hear Billy is starting to get interested in food again.  He will have lost a lot of weight, so give him whatever he wants for a few days just to get him going.

Try halved grapes or strawberries. That gets most chickens tamed to eating from your hand  :)

Great News I think Billy is no on the mend.  His right eye is fully open  and he is 'blinking' his left eye and the swelling is going down.  He seems a bit more perky and is eating, I am treating him with corn in his layers to help fatten him back up.  He is such a softy, Ive uploaded some pictures of him lay down.  I left him like that while I went back o the house for the camera and he was still lay there when I came back!!!!!

Update...  not good news   Billy's 'pecked' eye  got worse this week  really inflamed and swollen so yet another trip to the Vets (my OH says this is the last time!!!)  Had 3 vets examine him and all agreed he probably a) has an abcess and b) lost he sight in that eye.  He was given 2 aniti inflammatory jabs and a course of oral antibiotic (quite strong apparently) that I have to give him twice a day and if not a marked improvement they suggest operating to remove his eye. That did NOT go well me my OH  so the vet said that if it came to that option as they are a teaching practise and have never operated on a chicken before there would be a minimal charge.  Personally, cos  I am a big softy, I think it is worth doing if I have to as I am sure he will survive Ok with one eye.  Whilst he has been in isolation this week I have made a purpose built enclosure for him and Mrs B with a 10ft high fence  which should hopefully stop Thatcher getting him again...... watch this space...

The really has been through the wars but at least he has a chance of life with you on his side.  I hope the medication works and he does not have to endure an operation.

Only you can make that decision and of course take the advice of your vet.   :)

Personally having been brought up on the farming side I would never waste money on vets bills for a chicken ! However having gone this far and regarding him as a pet its a different matter ( Having spent £1500 on a cat that I lost ) IMHO you need to continue for your own peace of mind ! :)

You've spent hours patiently nursing him.  Honestly, I think you have crossed the line with Billy and he's more a pet now  :) Sounds like the vet is being really helpful over the costs as well.

I don't think it will affect Billy to only have one eye. Animals just get on with life  :)
