All my raspberry plants have died
« on: June 07, 2013, 12:40 »
Hello All

I wonder if anyone can tell me why my raspberry plants all died please.

I planted about 12 plants in my fruit cage 2 years ago.  The first year I got a few raspberries but not a great deal.  I was hoping for a better year this year.  However, over the last 12 months, one by one the plants have died.  The stems went brown and the leaves started to shrivel up.  I am not sure what I have done wrong, whether it is the soil, a  disease or whether someone has sprayed nearby during high winds!  Although the latter is unlikely since the plants have slowly disappeared over 12 months.

The photo below shows the last plant on its way out, you can see how the stems are woody and the leaves are starting to shrivel up and some have gone brown.

I am a bit reluctant to buy more in case the same thing happens again.

Many thanks in advance,

Wendy

Have you pruned them at all since you planted them?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Has the ground been waterlogged?

Hi

No I haven't pruned them. Oh dear is this where I went wrong?

During the first year most of the plants didn't get leaves on them however so I'm thinking there must have been something wrong.

Wendy

PS I think the ground is quite solid due to heavy rain last year but this area didn't flood.
