Raspberry problem
« on: June 02, 2013, 08:56 »
 :(
Hello! I have a fruit cage with Autumn Bliss Raspberry canes growing up from having planted them last summer however a few of the canes have got to 14" tall or so and have fallen over as the base at ground level has turned brown and are thinner. Most canes seem ok but what is causing this? Wind? Disease? Mice? Too strong manure? Too wet? Please help me stop the problem! Thank you. Rosser

If they are grown on heavy wet soil's it could be Root Rot. Dig up one the canes and scrape away the covering on the root. If it is a reddish colour then it is root rot. Improve drainage and you should be ok to re-plant.
