My dear little RIR, amongst the first batch of hens I got, pegged it a coupla days ago.  OH and I very upset - she was a real pet hen.  Apparently peritonitis and septicaemia (yes, we did fork out for a PM at the vets!)  Now have just one lonely hen left, Freya, who's a barnvelder.  Does anyone else keep just one hen?

So sorry you lost her  :cry:  But I'm afraid they're not happy on their own.  She should have at least one friend.  It is often easier to introduce two new hens to a single established hen, than to try to introduce one to one.

I'm so sorry she died; we only have two hens and even though they're only a year or so old I'm already worrying about how one would cope if/when the other dies.

Yes, I thought as much Aunty.  Ironically, it was Clucks who was the sole survivor of the original flock, and I could really sense her loneliness - Geoff and I went out to get a few more to keep her company.  She survived all of them - again, up till this week.  (I loved that hen!)

It's amazing how close we can get to our pet hens tallulah, but they really do steal your heart  :cry:

Any chance you getting up to Lincolnshire Tallulah?  We have 300 new friends for her here!!!
