digging with my hens
« on: December 11, 2007, 14:50 »
hi

spent some nice quality time with my hens today, one was in the coop busy laying an egg so left her in peace and quiet, so while she was busy decided to get the trowel and started turning over the mud much to the delight of the rest they were all around me eating the worms and grubs that were coming out and rosey away in delight, it was so relaxing. They are getting really friendly now have had them about 7/8 weeks its great.  :D

Yep be careful my warrens used to rush in at the sight of the fork and sit on the bit where you put your foot, or dive underneath in a mad attempt to get the first worm.    "chicken kebab"

Same thing with ducks.  Years ago, my father put the fork clean through the web on one of our duck's feet when he was lifting tatties.  Poor thing could only swim in circles after that. :(

Hmmm! Thought I was going to have some headless chooks today when I was digging!  It's amazing that they can see the tiniest of worms and grubs - I didn't know half of them were in there!

My other half saw a program that said there are 1 billion spiders per acre of land which means we have 2 billion  Think he might have got his millions and billions mixed up but its still too many for me :?

I hate spiders so this was much UN-needed info

Spiders are a doddle!   OH is petrified (as in like a little girlie) of them and I'm the one who has to rescue them when they get in the house!

One time ( I was rather p***ed!) I had to get one frm the bathroom which happily was the size of my entire palm but a bottle of Semillon Chardonnay later and it was just a cute little ball of fluff to me which was happilly transported outside!  It's all mind-over-matter really!
