Well, after much consideration I decided to do what my wife tells me  , which is to choose King Edward as my main crop spud this year.

I've tried this variety before and found them tasty but always small in size and fairly low yield.

So, any good ideas on how to get the best yield? I have comfrey tea, plus the 'mash' left from making the tea, a small amount of my own compost, chicken pellets, wormery compost and juice.

Should I use all of these and if so, what's the best time to use them? Anything else work well?

Or is it all down to the weather and whatever I do won't make too much of a difference?

Plenty of manure usually does the trick and/or be generous with Blood Fish & Bone or Growmore/ specific potato fertiliser.

I use potato fertiliser when planting as I can get hold of it.

Make sure you water properly when the tubers are swelling.

I've avoided manure until now - been worried about bringing in dodgey stuff with it. Or maybe it's just that I don't want to have to dig it in?

I've read elsewhere that lots of mulshing works well but I don't have enough of anything to mulsh with yet.

Hmmm. Perhaps get some manure and at least mulsh with that?
