Rubarb sprouts.
« on: October 11, 2012, 09:17 »
My sprouts have been pants this year. First time I've grown them, and the last. Huge plants with massive leaves and thick stems. Not much in the line of actual sprouts though. Attracted plenty of whitefly too. Plus, they got well munched by various breeds of caterpillar. The question is this: If I put them through the garden shredder, will they dig in as a green compost where I intend putting next years spud?

Also, I've had some onion seed planted for months in trays in the GH. They have only just stated to show any signs of real growth. Not even pickling size. Is it viable to save them for next years sets, or do I pink them out?

do you mean Rubine brussels sprouts ?

I'd just shred them and add them to the compost heap ;)

as for the onions - there's more info here

I have that effect on people at times.

"My sprouts have been rhubarb this year", translates to "my sprouts have been rubbish this year".

I would leave sprouts they may be a late variety and produce a crop in late winter.

The onions  only thing you can do is use as spring onions nought else.
