Hi everyone,

I have just spent time weeding and digging over my first allotment and have read about green manures, so I was thinking about planting field beans soon.  One source (Suttons garden planner) says they shouldn't be planted before potatoes or root veg but I can't find any other source that says this - can anyone help?

Because of the nitrogen fixing that comes from Legumes they are normally followed by Brassica's. They can also be cut down in spring and will grow again when they can be cut down and dug in. Your spud's  will need to be in the ground before that. Mustard is supposed to be good before spud's as it confuses the click beetles into breeding early which cut's down on wireworm.
