Aubergine flower dropped off
« on: August 27, 2012, 09:48 »
I have some healthy Aubergine plants growing in pots in the greenhouse. No flowers but one developed in the last couple of weeks  giving me hope of at least one fruit :) I go out this morning to find it has dropped off  :(

Why has this happened ? I sowed them in March for a guarantee of flowering in time before the season ends. I have NEVER had one fruit growing successfully on these plants in the last 3 years  :(

You are not alone - they are not easy to grow

That is cold comfort at least. Perhaps the North West isn't the best climate.

I grew some in the greenhouse once and had fruit, but didn't like the spiky leaves as they "bit" me when I bent down!
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Mine are in the border of the little greenhouse.  I had 9 wonderful plants, lots of flowers, but the flowers were dying with no fruit coming, so I took one flower off and 'tickled' the other flowers with it.  Still no flowers and 2 plants suddenly started dying.  Took those 2 out, the other 7 look lovely, but still no fruit!   :(

I have also decent plants that are in the polytunnel. I've looked after them well,. Loads of flowers but no fruit. Plants that i've put in my mums greenhouse, I've not really done much with, and they are doing well and have several fruit on them. Looks like I will not have to fuss with them and in general other veg, as they find a way!

I picked two aubergines in my greenhouse today.  I have two open windows and an open door so I guess they are being pollinated.
