My OH has suggested that, because our latest dig of potatoes have been slugged, that I use a dibber and put slug pellets in the holes to kill the underground pests. What do you think?

I would not want to try that as you are increasing the chance of the spuds uptaking the checimals from the slug pellets. 

Instead Nematodes may well be the better option as they should get washed into the soil to get the little beggers, and then the dead slugs become 'free' compost as they die!

The only downside is that some of the manufaturers of the nematodes (or should that be growers?) have been flooded by requests for them this year and are struggling to produce/grow enough!

I've read of several experienced members on here who put slug pellets into the ground when planting spuds.

I don't know whether it actually has much of an impact, and I certainly wouldn't suggest adding pellets by digging holes later as you may damage the potato tubers.

I would not want to put any  chemical poisons into the ground if the pots are slugged then its to late anyway ! I would suggest a couple of good digginson the plot in late autum when there is a frost about , bring all those pests and diseses up to the surface to be frosted and provide a welcome meal for the wild life
