How big do styx cucunbers get before ready for harvesting? Any test to see when they are ready?

I have 2 garden pearl toms in the green house. Both from seed I saved myself from the same fruit. Both in exactly the same compost, both being fed identically. One has deep green foliage, the other light green. I've given the lighter one some foliar spray with epsom salts, but no change. Is it nothing to fret about.

My Maris Bard earlies have been in 16 weeks now and the flowers have only just dropped. I furtled a couple of weeks ago and there was very little there. Would you leave them a bit longer, or get 'em out?

Leave the Maris Bard for a while longer. As Mum advised me on another post the weather is keeping everything delayed by about three weeks.

Is one of your toms nearer the door and getting a cold draught?

One tom is nearer the door, but it's not getting any draught.

I've given the bards a feed  and a sprinkling of potash, that should perk 'em up.

I've just gobbed half of one of the cukes, and it was very nice, ripe or not. In fact the nicest tasted cuke I've ever had. Very succulent.
