Collecting chicks
« on: May 03, 2012, 20:28 »
I am collecting some day old chicks, a journey taking 1-2 hours. How should I keep them warm for the journey home?
Thanks,
Jane

When we collected our day olds in the past, our journey was only half an hour, but they are in aerated cardboard boxes.

But the chap where we get our meat chicks from, delivers day olds all over the country in the same boxes.

If you are worried, could you put something like a hot water bottle in the box with a nice thick towel over it.  The box shouldn't be too big, otherwise the chicks can jostle about and maybe break a leg.  This is how our chicks travel from the hatchery!
