Hi just down the road (Longnewton). I wonder about different shape beds - you have to weigh up accessibility or individual looks.
The idea of a wind brake is good, I have just put in some jerusalem  artichokes not to form a wind brake but as they grow to about 6 ft they would do the job.

I would take it a bit at a time get one bed done then move onto another. If you dont get it all done this season put some covering down( carpet/black plastic) it will keep the weeds down and then when( if ) you get a spare moment you can work on that bit.

Good luck
Taken over neglected veg garden at new home. Enemy number 1 Ground Elder. Then there is the furry terror - bunnies - to contend with!
Made a start have beds established but moved in too late for serious planting. We shall see what 2015 brings.

Please, NOT carpet!

Just read some of the others' threads on here about the difficulties they have in removing layers of the stuff.  It quite possibly contains toxins which may be released on breakdown, and weeds frequently grow through it and make it disintegrate.

For good reasons it is now banned on many sites.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
