Feltham First Peas
« on: March 02, 2012, 10:43 »
Hi

When you plant these in Autumn are you supposed to cover them? It didn't say anything about it on the packet so I just planted them straight in the ground. They were doing fine until the snow but that rotted the winter growth off.  They've started to grow again now though.

I've split this off to give you your own thread as you've posted on an inactive 3 year old thread.

Personally I don't think over-winter peas are worth itt as you have to more effort into protecting the crop during extreme cold spells, just to get a crop a few weeks earlier.

As they're sprouting, obviously let them do so and see what you get
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Thanks.

I'm only really growing them because it's something to put in over winter and it fits my crop rotation. I'm not a major pea fan. Basically, they follow my sweetcorn in Autumn then my plan is to harvest them by early June and put in Courgettes in their place.

I grow in my back garden you see so space is more limited than on an allotment.
