Hi I have just been reading the January edition of kitchen gardener and one of the sowing suggestions for January is peas, does this mean sowing them indoors or out as I have never planted peas this early??

It'll be outdoors, I've sown a few early this year,as I've got a very sheltered spot,  but they are a risk if you get a very cold snap and will need more looking after.

At the end of the day, it's up to you to consider if it's worth the extra effort to get a crop a few weeks early.

It really depends where you are in the UK, when you sow outside. It is still very early except in the mildest parts of the UK.

Someone that is sharing my plot with me has overwintered (without any protection) some peas and they seem to be surviving despite the low temperatures that we are having now, but I don't know if they would germinate with the freezing temperatures:  I'd have thought that any hungry rodent that finds them would gobble them all up.
