I think i made my hen go Broody!!!?
« on: September 22, 2011, 12:42 »
Well, new hens coming into lay, so I followed the advice of putting some golf balls in the hen house.

That worked and the hens were laying well in the house.  I then found a hen trying to hatch them!

It had gathered up the three eggs that were already in there and had spread itself all over them (and the golf balls).  (AMAZING how large a hen looks when it spreads out!!!)

Lifted her out and took all the golf balls and eggs away.  Not impressed, very upset with me!  Went back up and just nested on nothing!  Wouldn’t even come down for treats and normally its top of the order!

She was ok this morning with nothing to nest on - is it possible she was just trying it out, or am i likely to have a problem with her for the next few weeks.

Got the dog cage on standby but don’t want to get into that unless i have too!

You'll clearly put her off her stroke and upset her.  Just when she was getting into the swing of it.

Now in order to get a birdie she's going to have to book lessons with the local pro but the least you could do is let her have her Top Flights balls back so she can practise her putting.

She is only 34 weeks old... and a chicken!!!

Most people would find that inpressive enough.

I guess your flock are all playing in the US open.

There always a bigger fish trying to steal my thunder.

Mine are useless as they insist on playing with a featherie!

Lewjam, worse than that you seem to have made my hen go broody!  ::)

One of my Barred Plymouth Rocks has been snuggling down on real eggs, fake eggs, or just an empty nest box.  Not even a golf ball in sight.  Please undo whatever spell you have cast as she is my best (p)layer.

Just use my Technique it seemed to work,

Just remind the hen in question, that she is actually made of chicken!

I was a shocked as you when i found out, but under all those feathers is actual chicken meat!

Who knew!

When i reminded her of this she seems to have decided that being broody wasn’t for her!
