look very cheep chicken run!!
« on: September 26, 2007, 09:55 »
Hi I just thought I would put this idea on for anyone like me who has a few chickens and would like a portable foldable easy peasy very inexpensive run.

I bought three metal fireguards from car boot sales for a couple of quid a pices and clipped them together in a circle popped a bit of nylon net over it and hey presto a run for only £7

It is pretty big I suppose about 7ft accross and of course fully extendable just by buying more or les fireguards at car boot sales!

I have considerd buying another couple of fireguards to make a solid top but cant see much point as the net is fine and easy enough.

The fact that the whole thing will fold away flat makes it really handy, so Ihope someone else will find this useful.
ok so I know its a daft question but Im cute ......

big sign reads 'NO FOXES'

I use the run when I am about the house and gardens, so that I can keep an eye on em, it wouldnt be fox proof, its more for now and then day to day use, it just gives em a chance to get some fresh greens/grass and eat some different bugs, they love it and run over there when I open the gate on their run, they get really excited when they see me get it out of the shed and are fighting to be first inthe que when I open the run..very cute

You could probaly wire it up solidly to make it fox proof with atop and bottom but it doesnt seem worthit while I am about

Gotcha, I didn't realise it was only for occasional use.  I thought you meant it was their main run that they spent their daytimes in, not just an occasional playpen for when you're there with them

:D yep just a playpen I like that idea, they have a big run for everyday use but they scoffed allthe grass in there in a week or so, so this gives us all some extra entertainment keeps them amused cuase they get fresh ground and me cause I get to move em over the worst dandelions and watch them demolish them..very satisfying and better than weedkillers anyday.

It would be a very useful idea for putting inside the main chicken run for new introductions too
