How to spot a broody hen?
« on: August 19, 2011, 14:11 »
Hiya
We have a couple of hens acting very strangley, they are digging holes just big enough to sit and start making a warbling noises when the other hens approach they just sit there and dont move,is this a sign of being broody. They are not malting (yet) egg laying is erratic.
Cheers Steve

It`s a sign of an imminent dust bath !

If you cannot get them out of the nestbox and they fluff up and growl when you try it means they are broody.

Malting is usually a sign of whisky making and is to be encouraged by getting them a still.  Wish my chickens would open a distillery ;)
