Hello all! Hope you are all well, First time growing peppers, been told they would go green to black to red, ours have just gone black only, is this normal. ta

I've only ever seen them go mottled black on the way through to red. Are you sure that one doesn't have purple as its destination colour....  :unsure:

I don't remember my cayenne peppers going that black either.

Gosh!

My cayennes ripen to red via mottled black as Argyllie has said (my plants don't have blackish stems either - they're green!)  :)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Just found the seed packet they are Chilli Chenzo, say's they turn green /black/red looks like ours missed out the green part 8)

I'm growing the freebie cayennes that came with some gardening magazine. They are doing brilliantly well and I've had to give loads of the plants away as I'd done far too many. Now I'm overrun with fruits.  They are quite hot!  I thought they'd be quite lame.  I chopped one up very small and added it to our salad today, which was just the right amount of heat

I'm going to give making pepper a whirl as they say it's very good for you
