Hello again just dug up some fine looking potatoes. what would you all recommend to plant in there place  and can i use chicken poo to to fertilize the soil or do i need to mix it with something and let it rot down  many thanks

There are still plenty of crops you can sow now.  Peas, French beans, late beetroot carrots or quick growing salads or turnips

Please don't use fresh chicken manure though. It is very strong when fresh and will kill off your plants unless it is rotted down for 12 months.

I tend to add mine to my compost heap as it also helps to rot down the other items in there and will leave till next spring before I use it.

thank you most helpful since i got the chickens my compost bin has filled very quick will i be ok to put it in a  black bag  with the bedding and leave it till next year

Yes or a large bucket defintately with a lid on but definately for a full year if you do it this way.

A guy near us keeps it and then scatters it over his plot during autumn to overwinter on top of the soil and he swears by this method.  He does have great crops I have to say.

I get lots of free chicken poo in the fall, which is when I cover the empty plots with the fresh stuff and let it mature over winter. By spring it's fine.

I don't have the compost space to compost fresh manure by the spreader load so this works better for me. I do add some fresh to compost though to help fire it up.
