« on: June 04, 2011, 14:13 »
Hi I,ve recently planted a globe artichoke and i now need to move it. Its still very young with only 2 true leaves it was planted about 2 months ago. Is it going to be ok to dig up and replant.

Thanks

I would think it isn't ideal to move it, but we have grown some from seed this year which are about 4 inches tall and quite robust now with roots coming out of the pots. :)

We've just been discussing today in fact, about planting out and we have decided to pot them up and plant them out in 8 - 10 weeks time, theory being they will be big strong plants by then ready to take on the winter having settled into the earth while there is still warmth around.

Roll on a good crop next year. ;)

If you must move it, water it really well the day before, or early in the day of the move.  Don't move it in the heat of the day - wait until later.

Dig as bit a rootball as necessary.

Cover the roots in plastic or similar when transporting it so they don't dry out.

And have the new hole for it ready before you dig it up.

Water a lot for the season after transplanting.

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
