I'll give it a go then.

I really fancy giving this a go this year, i keep saying im going to but never get around to it.
I'll get some seeds at weekend and sow them straight away in cells in the heated prop.
Should speed things up a bit.

I'm direct sowing some today. I sowed some in modules but it doesn't look overly healthy so i'm trying straight in.....

Cavolo Nero is not curly in the way that green curly kale is :)
It has long narrow leaves which are a bit bubbly rather than curly, here's a pic if you haven't seen it before.

I don't sow mine till end of july/august as it goes in after the spuds are lifted  :)

Yeh, thats the one mum.

Why do you sow it so late?
And can you sow it now or would you recomend holding on a bit.
It's a hungry gap veg isn't it?

I'm sowing mine now and will keep it under netting as it does take a while to reach useful size. We use it as sandwich 'lettuce' and all sorts of things, so a very useful veg. It will do better in cooler weather, but I'll plant lots and leave some to carry me through late fall.

Is it not a bit tough for that?

simply because I don't want to have it hanging around in pots for too long, when I can't plant it out till the 2nd early potatoes are lifted.

Of course if you have the room you can sow it earlier, but there is no rush to do it, that's all I'm saying. My packet says sow from May to the end of July  ;)
It does indeed stand through the winter  :)

Right,

I'll be sowing some at the weekend for summer and autum, and some more in July so it'll be a little more tender for eating come the colder months.

Thanks All
