Cavolo Nero
« on: July 14, 2008, 16:09 »
My OH sowed a whole packet of Cavolo Nero in rows in one of our raised beds, so he has kind of used it like a seed bed (without realising it), but still I think an entire packet was perhaps a bit OTT do you?

He has thrown the packet away and I can't see the instructions. What should we do next please?

Should I just keep gradually thinning these down until I end up with good plants every 45cm? Or should I thin them, grow lots of them on, and then move them elsewhere?

Thanks

I think if you've got the space I would just thin them and transplant the thinnings. Maybe discard the weaker seedlings.  That's what I'm going to be doing although I'm not going to have quite as many seeds as you!

I like the cavolo but so  do the pigeons so cover it with Enviromesh or netting  :D

It's a very posh veg so you might be able to sell some of your surplus plants  :D

Will do that cos we have loads of pigeons about. Need to get some more netting...

Will do my best not to kill off these plants and then maybe we can sell some - thanks.
