Hello all,

Some advice please as in Egypt at the moment and am really enjoying 'Fuul' a sort of mashed broad bean gloop that's flavoured with chickpeas and seseme.

The local supermarked sell two dried varieties 'small' about the size of a marrofat pea, and 'large' about the size of a large kidney bean. I suspect that they are field beans rather than true broad beans.

I intend to buy a couple of packets and see what happens.

Anybody tried growing them over here? Or could give advice as to the differenc between the two types, or which have the better flavour, or what they are used for?

I've seen it cooked on a number of TV progs (at least once by an Egyptian) and they've always used ordinary broad beans... It's always worth trying the seeds from Egypt but I guess you might find that UK varieties may not look the same but grow better and taste enough like the original...
