Hi

I am about to buy a Fig tree, any advice on which type to get would be very helpful?

One of the more hardy ones such as Brown Turkey.

I bought one in the summer, can't recall the variety but it's orrible.  Bleugh!  Hope it's better once it gets going and has had some sun on the fruit

Cant help with a variety i'm afraid but i ate fresh figs for 1st time this year, wonderful! despite a strange texture!
Sad to say but only ever had fig biscuits before and hated them :D

Brown Turkey is the best variety for the British climate. Figs are fully ripe when the fruits are a dark reddy brown, are soft to the touch,  when they have a wonderful delicate flavour. The tree is best grown in a container, as the roots need to be restricted to encourage fruting. 
There is no better show of antisipation than a man sowing seeds in a field.
