what do i do...cabbage
« on: October 09, 2010, 14:44 »
hi all novice here hence question.

i found today a fat slug on one of my hispi cabbages and took great delight in squeezing the life from it.
see piccy below is the slug responsible for this or whitefly? and should i remove the eaten bits or leave them on the plant, same thing is happening to my psb but not as severe.
both are covered with debris netting.
thanks in advance.

Whitefly would not be capable of causing damage like that. It's your deceased friend.

Leave the leaves on, whilst unsightly they are still functioning as the plant's food factory.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

They should do the trick, but have you got dogs or cats potentially wandering about near the veg? A thing to look out for. Crushed egg shells help as a barrier, to a degree and copper in contact with the earth has a slight charge going through it due to its low resistance and its uncomfortable for them to cross.
