We  have some strawberries on our allotment and we need to move them to another area when is the best time to do this.They have all finished fruiting and still have plaenty of green grow on them.

How old are the plants?

Really established ones won't move very well. Better to start afresh from the runners.

How long do the strawberry plants last? They throw out runners and they, in turn, throw out runners. How long, when space is limited, is it worthwhile keeping the "original" plant?

3 years is the recommended time, but you can stretch it a bit.
