I planted strawberries in October last year the plant are doing well .they are producing runners should I leave them on or cut them off in the first year.?
A few are in flower.

You are usually advised to take first year runners off so the plant can put all its energy into growing and producing fruit

even though you cant expect massive crop this year it is always good to remove early runners. come autumn choose how many runners you want (I let 2 per plant) and remove the rest. this will expand your strawberry patch and you can remove old plants in 5 year cycle (thats when they get tired)

Gee Plot74 this sounds early to have runners... Mine have a few flowers but no sign on any runners at all.. You must have had some good growing weather..

are these new runners or ones that are now showing signs of new growth from last year but still attached to the 'parent' plant?

All new runners. They are planted in a raised border about 18 inches apart with a hole dribbled in the centre filled with well rotted manure  they started off about 2-3 inches now roughly 6-8 inches per plant.
