Hi everyone. long time no see
Over the last 18 months or so I have sucessfully reared about 15 chicks all with the help of a broodie hens.
Now I've used my electrical/electronics abilities to builld an incubator.
Hoping for some results within the next few days. Now I ned to know about brooders
My incubator is about 3ft by 2ft. What is to stop me using the incubator as the brooder?
The incubator uses a pretty nifty temperature controller that is easy to set when required and has timed lighting included. Your advice would be appreciated.
BTW I have two half allotments for my birds. One has 6 Light Sussex Bantams(and cock) and the other a mixture of 4 rescue hens and cock.
I find the keeping of chickens to be a pleasant diversion from the Veg allotment itself.

a brooder allows the chicks to practise flights, run, temperature control - in that they can remove themselves away from the heat source if they feel too hot and get closer if cold etc. They grow so quick that your incy would not be big enough in such a short space of time - remember they need to be inside for around 5 - 6 weeks depending on the weather.
