duckling with pompom head
« on: September 01, 2010, 14:40 »
Hi all,
We have 9 four week old Indian Runner ducklings all loving the sun and their new washing up bowl!

However 1 has a very fluffy head and I was wondering is this normal or do we have a problem.

S/he is so cute, eating drinking and running around the pen but her fluff ball shows no sign of diminishing, in fact today I think it is larger and looks like it has been pushed to the back of the head.

Any opinions/suggestions/experience would be very welcome

Thanks
Kathie

Hi Joyful,

WOW!! :D  That's exactly what s/he looks like only in black

so s/he is special!!!

We got the eggs off a breeder in Capel Dewi near us and they all had different parents but nothing was said about crested ones.

Sorry if I sound stupid but as long as there isn't a problem I'm happy

Thank you so much
Kathie

I am so excited, thank you for the info.  All we have to wait for now is to find out if s/he is a Don or a Donna!

Thanks again

So special I think a photo is definately in order!

Lots of people spend years trying to breed perfect crested ducks. Crests can arise when bred
from crested stock or as a spontaneous mutation.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Good morning Kate (I am also a Liverpool lass)

I would love to put up picks, but we live in a remote valley (know locally as the Dark Valley!) and as we only have a dongle can't put picks up.  What I am going to try is text pics to daughter and get her to up load them.

Thanks again everyone
Have a great sunny day :D

Hi Kathie,

Just wondered if you might have a Bali duck - they look very much like runners except for the pom-pom.  Lucky you, I tried hatching some Bali's this summer but none survived  :(

Post a piccie when you have one!   :) :)
