The rust has begun to appear, & I can't remember if there is something that can be done to stop it getting worse. Any advice please? Thanks

The general advice is not to worry.

Usually the bulbs are fine. Just destroy the leaves, don't compost.

It's a fungus and occurs in mild, damp weather.

Sorry Dave, it aint been mild and damp here.
Rob, one of our plot holders has a bed full of rusty garlic, no one else has it  Onions, leeks etc are all clear.

Dithane controls rust on garlic. The garlic probably still has another month to grow so it may be worth doing. Having said that Dithane will only stop it spreading and will not wipe off what is already there. There needs to be a 7 day interval between application and harvesting.

Dithane also controls rust on leeks, which is probably more useful.

Rusts on leeks, garlic and onions are each different types and will not spread from one crop to another.
