What is this?
« on: April 18, 2010, 21:50 »
I have a hunch and I wanted to run this past the experienced people on this forum but what is this growing in my garden?

We moved in our house last July and I didn't even notice this growing in the garden.....but if I am right I will be very happy!

Answers on a post card please :o)

We don't have lots and I have been reading up about it on the internet.  Last year when we moved in there was a medium sized fern in the same place as where the spears were coming up now.  Which I believe is the spears that weren't picked last year.

Yes, definitely asparagus.  The "ferns" grow to about 4ft high or so.  Mine have popped their little heads this week. :D

You can cut all the spears until mid-June. After that leave them to grow up so that the roots can store up energy for next Spring.
