Garlic

I have just planted my Garlic but most posts say this should be done in Oct / Nov. What are the downfalls with planting now and when should they be ready by?

Most garlic is ready by July even if you plant it late.
They do require frost which enables them to divide into cloves.
Correctio, Accommodo, Maturus.

People say that they should have a good cold spell in the ground...John H' has produced a great video on growing garlic where he starts them off in pots - worth watching.  I took his advice this year and started them in pots, after 5-6 weeks they are 3 inches tall and now in the ground going full throttle.  More experienced allotmenteers' than I may be able to advise better.  Good luck!
Now then, I am a very pleasant lad from York.  I have a decent half plot on Holgate allotments.

I planted garlic in late September and they appear to be going great guns. I've just returned from a holiday in Thailand where garlic is everywhere (in cooking, markets etc).
It's grown there but the temperature rarely gets cool (never mind cold) year round. Are there varieties that are suited to warm climates?

Confused.

I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

Might it be a Spring variety? In which case you should not be too badly off.

I posted in another thread how manky my crop was last year (planted late / neglected) by the Kitchen Crew say it cooks just fine, and are still using it up ...

I use spring planting variety.- mainly because Im not organised enough to plant other varieties in October!
Tried spring type for first time last year, it wasnt ready until a month after the instructions stated (September) not August.  Due to my ignorance I didnt put in the fridge, (only just found out you should do that) but it still worked out fine anyway.
