Quick incubator question
« on: April 06, 2010, 08:47 »
I have hens eggs in an RCOM20. They went in on the morning of Friday 19th March. Which day do I increase the humidity and stop the turning?

I've read on some websites you don't start counting the days until the morning of the day after you put themin and on others that the day you put them in counts as the first day - I'm confused!

I have never used an incubator but when I put eggs under my broodies I count that day as day zero so going by that your 19th day is tomorrow. Can't help with the humidity though - hopefully soebody who uses incubators will be along soon.
Good luck with the hatching  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.

Hi if you put them in on the 19th you should stop turning and increase the humidity today which is day 18.

Thanks! Turning stopped and humidity up today then - tis done. I've always had a broody to figure all of this out for me before, but the Silkies I have atm are useless! Hence the incubator.

Just remember...day 18 is LOCKDOWN.....inc humidity, put hatching mat in (if used), candle if you are unsure, then LEAVE THEM ALONE no opening to check/help/move. It messes up the humidity at a really crucial time. Next time you open should be 24 hours after the first chick hatches. It is hard not to interfere..I do it all time    ::)  but believe me, the weakly cuties that do survive, never go on to make good healthy hens  :(
