potatoes, lettuce
« on: May 29, 2007, 20:34 »
my potatos have been in about 7 weeks, when and how will i know if they are ready? i have maris bard, nicola, charlotte, and desiree, and how long will the salad potatos last once dug up, or can i leave them in until needed?

also i took one of my green lettuce thinking it was ready and it tasted a bit bitter, could this be because it was too small or would there be another reason?

your help appreciated!

They usually say pot's are ready after they flower, I lift my salad potatoes as I need them, depends on how many you eat, the longer they stay in they can get bigger and skins will thicken.

What variety of lettuce are you growing ?

Lettuce can be a little bitter in early season due to slow rate of growth.

Potatoes : I'd say 3 to 4 weeks after they flower.  Others will say 0 - 1 week after they flower.  I'll admit that Nicola can get a bit too big if left in.
