Let the Growing Commence....
« on: February 19, 2010, 16:33 »
So far this year (week)I have sown, Black Chillies, Jalapenos, chillies and lemongrass in a heated propagator on my kitchen windowsill. In just a couple of days the lemongrass is up!! I had good results last year with lemongrass, it grew quite happily in a large pot in my greenhouse., Today I have sown some broad beans, I dont like them but my husband does,  I had some left from last year, so in they went!! I am growing them in my unheated greenhouse alongside my early potatoes that are being chitted. So all in all I think I can safely say, the growing season has commenced!!

Good stuff! I've got:

onions growing from seed on a windowsill
spuds chitting
garlic growing on the plot(only planted last weekend - it's shot up!)

Good luck!
It's still to early to do anything up here without heat.
I'll leave it a couple of weeks yet I think.

I've got broad beans, cauli and sweet peas germinating under a bit of shelter, tomatoes and chillies in a propagator and me spuds chitting away merrily.
I was put on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things; right now I am so far behind I will never die.

We had -8 last night. A little too cold yet up here, even for greenhouse crops unless you've got a BIG heater. I did fill some pots with seed compost and have them warming up inside the house in the vain hope that in a week or so I might be able to put some seeds in them.

My seed spuds arrived on Tuesday. They are in a box in the spare bedroom. The first earlies are already showing an inckling of life. Now't from the maincrop yet.
I've planted a dozen garlic cloves in a plastic window box in the garden. That will go up to the plot next week. I've brought a bag of seed compost into the house to warm up a little and my broad beans will be sown into newspaper tubes this weekend. When they come through, I'll put them out in the coldframe before planting out sometime next month.
