early arrivals
« on: December 05, 2009, 09:30 »
Can anyone give me some advice! I put 24 quail eggs into the incubator and last night was day 15, I opened the incy and put in a Jeye cloth and quickly replaced the eggs onto it ready for hatch day. But.......2 or 3 were  pipped????? this morning we got up and we have 1 baby quail hatched already, but its only day 16??? (only stopped turning yesterday) does it suggest that I may have problems?? the temps and humidity have all been spot on etc and its not happened when I hatched my last lot of quail!!!!!

Hmm, they just eager to see you :tongue2:

If they pip too early, you should lower the temp of the incie. A good idea is to record the details of all hatches (incl the ambient temp), and the breed. You raise the temp if they born late, lower if too early. I only hatch choox, and have found, with trial and error, large fowl like 37.8 and banties like 37  but that is just MY inc, in MY house. I'm sure it is different for everyone.  Lower the temp by half a degree for now, or down to 37, depending what u have it set on right now, and humidity up to 65, to stop the pipped eggies from drying out.

Good luck with your tiny prem babies
Pets:if you don't love them like family, don't have them

I find that my quail pip on day 16.... sometimes if I dont get them out of the bator in time they have already pipped..... this is what happened last week.... took them out on day 15 and half were pipped..... I thought that I would have problems as the bator runs dry but the hatcher is about 75%

But they all hatched fine this time, bar a couple dead in shell (abour day 10 though) and some that were not fertile :) I ended up with 39 out of 48 eggs which was pretty pleasing for this time of year :)

My temps are hard to get spot on because my Polyhatch has no fan...  and the temps differ from side to side and corner to corner.  But I have stopped fretting about it and the hatches have improved since I have left it alone.

One other thing... were the eggs from the same supplier as last time.... maybe it could be a genetic thing???
I love Pekins, Polands and Seramas :) and eggs!!!

Very wet, very crowded but lovely atmosphere!  :D we did the park and ride which the kiddies loved, going on the top deck of the doulble deckers    so much lovely food, such little time  (german sausage hot dogs, waffles, roast chestnuts and the best hot chocolate ever which had baileys in  !)  really glad we went but OMG!!!!!! the queue to get back on the buses was the biggest i have ever seen (and we have queued to see santa at Baytree before  ) It took the whole hour journey back home to warm up  ???
