Peppers advise
« on: October 16, 2009, 11:52 »
Hi have grown peppers from seed for the first time this year.

They have been in the greenhouse. What do I do with them at this time of the year? I have got green peppers growing on them. Do I leave them to go try to go red or dig them up and throw away.

keep them in the greenhouse.
it's unlikely they'll go red now because i don't think they've got enough sunlight.

i was going to dig mine up when they'd born fruit, but they did a second spurt so i'm hanging onto them as an experiment.

Mine did a second spurt brought one lot in with tiny peppers growing on it.  All the leaves dropped off followed by the peppers.  Don't know if it was the change in temp or too much water, I know they don't like a lot of water.

If it were me, I'd eat the green peppers and then trim the plants back to keep them over the winter and get a head start next year.

Keep them on the dry side, and then give one feed of tomato food around Feb to get them going again.

Werks fer me: I only keep ones I especially like as I wouldn't have sapce for every one

Oh I had no idea you could keep the plant, I thought you had to produce new each year.

Will try that thanks all.

My peppers had finished fruiting, so I cut through the stems and put them outside the greenhouse to put the compost on the beds 'when i get round to it'........well I haven't yet, and some of them have started to grow right from the base :D
So i've put them back in the g/h to see what happens. If they die I have lost nothing, if they live...BONUS
I had already bought inside the chillies that I wanted to keep
