new mum - dead eggs?
« on: August 05, 2009, 16:14 »
HI my broody has hatched 3 chicks between Monday pm and today am and is now brooding them off the nest. There are two eggs left in the nest, can I assume these are duds and throw them away?

Is three out of six a reasonable hatch? I do know that the cockerels are young and this is their first season as it were.

3 o'clock is both too early and too late to start anything - Sartre said so.

Mum wouldn't have felt any movement so yes you can assume those eggs are duds and just throw them away  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.

I'd have a good listen and candle them first, but if she's been off them for a while then I doubt if any are still alive anyway :(
