Oh they are beautiful!
How strange that this keeps happening,  but thank goodness someone took the trouble to do as much as they did.  Could easily have set them loose for the fox.

I think you're very lucky!

From the note, it sounds like someone bought them as a gift for the owners who just arent into chickens, and did not want to be "persuaded" to have them by the unwanted gift. Could even be the family children got them, and parent(s) said no!  Either way, they look like lovely birds, lucky you! my Cream legbar cost me £25. Advice:keep them seperate from yours, in a sort of quarantine for a bit?
 :wacko:
Pets:if you don't love them like family, don't have them

trust me the shock lasts . i had the same last week and it was my article flagged up at the start of your replies . Mine are still seperate from my current flock of 8 but seem in good health and laying well  and after reporting it to the rspca they kindly sent someone round who agreed with me they were in good health and she also advised me this was surprisingly common . Good luck and i hope all goes well :lol:

Have to agree with Sam. I think they are victims of the current fashion for keeping hens and that not enough thought was put into getting them. Suspect that they werre an impulse buy and they were too embarassed to admit it. Who gets chickens as a gift without checking the recipient wants them and has housing for them. Although given the number of people who get them for themselves with no thought perhaps it is not so incredible after all.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

I have carmed down a bit now  ::) .......

so have the 2 chooks who are happily eating corn (just a treat! I think they deserve it LOL)!

I must admit I am pleased to have them and blue and white eggs will be lovely once they are in lay! so lucky me! unexpected but a nice present.

Although I dont condone for one minute what these people have done!

Welcome Mork and Mindy (well the legbar has got a weird hairdo a bit like an alien).
