Hi all, I bought a Limousine Blue pullet from a market in April. I didn't check her over properly and when i got home she couldn't walk. The vet said it was an old injury , disclocated hocks. She has had lots of antibiotics over the months and anti inflammatories. She blossomed but still didn't walk, but was happy to sit under the tree with the big girls . Then the thing i was dreading- she came into lay and only laid about 5 eggs over a 2 week period, the day before yesterday , she came down with the most terrible cold and bad chest, the next day it was worse, i thought laying was taking its toll on her , so asked OH to do the deed Anhour or so before i noticed she sneezed out blood :blink: Could the stress of laying have caused this or is there something more sinister i need to be worrying about, because of theothers. It came out the blue she was fine  before. Sorry for the long post but its sad she's gone and now i'm panicking a bit

sorry kitkat about your hen. Not able to help you on this as I've never had anything like this nor read any thing about it either. Hopefully someone may be able to help you. Have you rang your vets and asked them?

That sounds nasty    I would contact the vet for advice.  It might be a good idea to consider prophylactic treatment for your other girls.

Sorry to hear your news ;)its sounds very much like she had infectious laryngotracheitis, there is not real treatment apart from TLC and isolation, antibiotics for secondary infections and an inflammatory like metacam. Disinfect housing/feeders etc thoroughly with a strong disinfectant that is also liscensed to kill viruses.
Could have been something else of course, a blood test would confirm, blooming spray, mucous is symtomatic of ILT though

Thanks all for replying,Foxy it was the ILT thing i was worrying about. The others seem fine but i will go and see the vet i think just in case.
        Poor Peggy, i think must have stayed in small crates untili had her, she also looked anaemic, if they can be.
         I actually took her again to the vets 3 weeks ago to be put to sleep as i knew she was coming in to lay, the vet said no she wanted to live a bit longer, but ididn't agree
