My blueberry bushes have just been potted into 60L pots in ericaceous compost with a mulch of pine needles and cones. I have no problem with collecting rain water (!!) so all seems fine. Searching through the forum to check I was doing things right I found some advice from Trillium (2007) to 'mulch, sulphur and manure every year'. The question is when is the best time to do this?

I do it in the spring as it takes time for the acidic elements to reach the roots that year. I don't feel I need to do repeated feedings with these as blueberries are good foragers if given the right elements at least once yearly. I might add the sulphur a 2nd time as we have no ericaceous compost here and I must amend my soil.

If you are using ericaceous compost and rainwater you should not need to apply sulphur.
