i do it in the evening - because it's not hot so the water gets into the ground instead of just evaporating, and also because i have more time and inclination in the evening - my sleep is precious and i barely have time to get dressed when i get up in the morning!

As much as I love my plants, no way am I getting up even earlier to water them. They can have thier water in the evening and bloomin well be grateful

Usualy water in the evening around 6pm as it's cooler unless we get a good downpour like a couple of days ago then I leave it for a couple of days.

Considering you should not water your plants from above, but below where it'll be close to ground level, anytime will work. The worst thing is for the leaves to get wet and any sun magnify the droplets and burn the leaves.

I agree with this. I lived in the South of France for 29 years, so that is the advice I was given : in the hot weather, don't water during the day as it may burn the plants! Evening is best since the soil retains the coolness a bit longer.

Having said that, I water when I can here, which means during the very hot weather too  Well, I just think that it is better than nothing at all at the moment. It has not burn anything yet, maybe it is not hot enough
